Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE includes a wide range of clothing and equipment meant to reduce or eliminate risk of injury for workers. It can be as simple as putting on steal toe boots, hardhat and safety glasses or as involved as fall protection harness systems and respirators.
The first step in finding proper PPE is to have a PPE assessment done for the applicable job or task. One may have already been done and will be on file in your department or with UOEHSM.
When you are issued PPE, make sure that you know when you are to use it, and how to use it properly. And never alter it! It is your responsibility to keep your equipment clean and in reliable working condition. It is also your responsibility to ensure it is available and used at the worksite, or the job is not done properly.
