General campus and community
If you are a part of the IU community, whether through taking classes, participating in campus activities, using campus facilities, or just enjoying our beautiful campus grounds, we want you to be safe and to help us minimize our impact on the environment. Below you will find information and links useful to you as you take advantage of IUB facilities and opportunities.
Report a Concern – If you have any environmental or safety concerns while at IUB, we want to hear from you. We depend on our campus community members’ reports to supplement our own auditing program.
Request Services – If you would like to request a service from EHS, you can use this link to go view a list of service requests that can be submitted directly to us online.
Green Product Evaluation Service(link to green product evaluation request) – Many products today claim to be “green”, but that can mean very different things to different people. EHS experts will evaluate green product claims for you to determine their basis and make recommendations based on your needs. If you are considering using a particular product with a “green” claim and would like to know more or if you would just like recommendations for green products or services, submit your request here.
Environmental Sustainability – As a leader in Environmental Education, Indiana University recognizes its responsibility to take a lead role in insuring the environmental sustainability of the communities in which our campuses reside. As such we have brought together some of our own outstanding environmental professionals from the academic, research, and administrative arenas to bring IU to the forefront of environmental sustainability for universities. This is the official web page of the Indiana University Sustainability Task Force.

Fire Safety – The Office of Risk Management administers the campus fire safety services. This site provides fire safety guidelines for campus buildings. You will also find contact information for fire extinguisher services or other fire safety concerns.
Emergency Preparedness – In the event of a disaster or large-scale emergency situation at IUB, this site will be used to post any official instructions and information. There is also a link on the left of the page to procedures and useful information for small-scale or personal emergencies. The “helpful links” section provides links to many other campus and local sources of information.
Public Safety – Campus safety and security is monitored by the IU Police Department (IUPD) which is a fully accredited State law enforcement agency. We are proud of our excellent campus police officers. This site provides information about the force, safety and security tips, and training presentations offered.
Indoor Air Quality – This page addresses concerns about odors in buildings or illness that seems to be associated with a building.
Ergonomics – This page provides information about fitting your work or study environment to you to minimize fatigue and potential injury.
Below are some links to other sources of everyday EHS information:
Household Products Database – a database from the National Library of Medicine pulling together information from a variety of sources to provide health and safety information for over 7,000 consumer products.
Energy Star Program – a good site from the USEPA and USDOE providing energy efficiency guidance for homeowners as well as government and commercial enterprises. It includes lists of energy star qualified home products and also some home energy self-audit guidance. It also includes an FAQ on mercury in compact fluorescent light bulbs with information about their proper disposal and what to do if they break in your home.
Earth 911 – This site has a lot of good information from government and private sources including a glossary of common “green” terminology. A feature that makes this site worth bookmarking is the “Find a Recycling Center” search at the top of the page. You can insert the material that you want to recycle with your zip code and it will return recycling options for that material in your area.
Go Green! – You can sign up here for EPA’s monthly newsletter with tips for greening your lifestyle or view the archives.
The Green Guide Product Reports – This is National Geographic’s green product guide. They do not endorse particular products, but they do compile lists of recommended products with reduced environmental impacts in their manufacture, use, or disposal.
